# SETUP FOR BEGINNERS — LinkRot

**No experience needed.** This guide walks you through everything, click by click.
If you can use a browser, you can do this. ~5 minutes total.

## What this tool does (in plain English)

LinkRot is a small button that lives in your Chrome browser. Click it on any
webpage, and it checks every link on that page. It shows you which links are
broken (dead), which redirect, and which are fine — and lets you copy the list
or export it as a CSV.

## What you need

- **Google Chrome** on a computer (Windows, Mac, or Linux)

That's it. No account, no installation wizard, no subscription.

## Step 1 — Unzip LinkRot

1. Find `linkrot.zip` in your Downloads folder.
2. Right-click it → **Extract All** (Windows) or double-click (Mac).
3. A folder appears: **`linkrot`**. Inside it there's another folder also named
   **`linkrot`** — that's the one we'll load. (If you only see files like
   `manifest.json`, then the folder itself is already the one we need.)

## Step 2 — Turn on Developer mode in Chrome

1. Open Chrome.
2. In the address bar, type **`chrome://extensions`** and press Enter.
3. In the top-right corner, find the switch **"Developer mode"** and flip it **on**
   (it may be under a "..." menu on some versions).

## Step 3 — Load the extension ("Load unpacked")

1. In that same `chrome://extensions` page, click the **"Load unpacked"** button
   that just appeared.
2. In the file picker, select the **`linkrot`** folder (the one that contains
   `manifest.json`) and click **Select Folder**.
3. LinkRot appears in your extension list and its icon shows up next to Chrome's
   address bar.

## Step 4 — Try it for free

1. Go to any webpage with links.
2. Click the LinkRot icon (next to the address bar).
3. Click **Scan**. After a few seconds you'll see the dead links listed.
   Click a result to jump to it, or use **Copy** / **Export CSV**.

**Demo mode** allows 25 scans for free — try before you buy.

## Step 5 — Unlock with your license (after you buy)

1. Click the LinkRot icon → open the popup.
2. In the **License key** field, paste your key (it starts with `ds-…`).
3. Click **Unlock**. Done — unlimited scans.

## Common questions

- **The icon isn't showing?** Click the puzzle-piece icon (extensions menu) next
  to the address bar and pin LinkRot.
- **Chrome updated and LinkRot stopped working?** Go back to `chrome://extensions`
  and click the refresh arrow on the LinkRot card.
- **I lost my license key?** Visit **https://smadsolutions.com/agent-b/recover/** and
  enter the email + order ID from your PayPal receipt.
- **New computer?** Your key allows 3 devices. Release the old one at
  **https://smadsolutions.com/agent-b/manage/**.
- **Can it be installed with one click like a normal app?** Soon — a Chrome Web
  Store listing is on the way. For now, "Load unpacked" is the 10-second path above.
